The Public Works & Engineering Division is responsible for the maintenance of city streets and sidewalks, and for the management of local capital improvement projects. This Division provides staffing to the Traffic & Safety Commission as well as to the City Council. Our Public Works & Engineering staff are ready to assist the public with questions about right-of-way and traffic issues and are known for a helpful attitude.

The Public Works & Engineering Division performs the following functions:

  • Develops plans and specifications for public works projects and oversees the City’s capital improvement programs

  • Issues permits and performs plan checks and inspections for work authorized within the public right-of-way

  • Checks plans for compliance with codes and inspects grading, paving, and utility installations for new commercial and residential development

  • Coordinates National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements with Los Angeles County, Regional Water Quality Control Board, residents, developers, and City staff
