Through its various partnerships, the Public Safety Department offers an array of enrichment and prevention programs for youth and their families.

Los Angeles County Probation & Sheriff's Departments

The City of Duarte contracts with the Los Angeles County Probation and Sheriff’s Departments to provide their evidence-based Prevention and Intervention Programs. These programs have been providing intensive personal services to youth K-12th and their families in Duarte for over 20 years. In 2021 the program was evaluated by Azusa Pacific University and researchers found that the program had over 50% impact on the decline in juvenile arrests. Program participants also reported that the program made them feel safe and provided a family environment.

A Deputy Probation Officer and School Resource Deputy are stationed at the Duarte Public Safety Station and work at all Duarte Unified School District schools to ensure that youth involved in the program stay out of the juvenile justice system. It is the mission of these officers to serve as mentors and teach youth how to navigate through life and difficult situations by developing positive life skills.

All Duarte deputies and public safety staff partner and hold educational presentations for parents, school officials, and youth on topics ranging from safety to dealing with peer pressure. They also conduct field trips, home visits, and are part of the Duarte Unified School Safety Team.
