Kick off Your Summer with the City of Duarte

It’s time for some fun in the sun in Duarte! Summertime is here and we are excited to welcome back our favorite events and activities for the entire family. From concerts in the park to making a splash in the Duarte pool, celebrate Summer with family, friends, and lots of sunscreen too! For all events that have fees and require registration, visit the Parks and Recreation Department’s ActiveNet Portal. You can find a list of City events and event information on the Duarte Community Calendar on the City’s website.

 

JUNE

June 20, 6 - 9 PM | Summer Kick Off - 80’s Night (1600 Huntington Drive)

Are you ready for a totally tubular summer? Kick off the first day of Summer with a trip to the 80s on Thursday, June 20 from 6-9 PM at the Civic Center Parking Lot! This free and family event will include live music from DJ Phil and the Flashbax, arts and crafts, vendors, free cosmic swim at the Duarte Pool, and much more. We look forward to spending the first day of Summer with you!

June 28, 7 - 10 PM | Dive-In Movie: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1600 Huntington Drive)

Grab your swimsuits and bring the whole family for a cowabunga movie night under the stars in the Duarte Pool. Register today online at the ActiveNet Portal or pay at the door (space is limited). For more information, please contact the Duarte Fitness Center at (626) 357-6118.

 

JULY

July 3, 6 - 9:30 PM | Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks Show (1401 Central Ave

Fireworks light up the Duarte sky when the City hosts its 5th Annual Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks Show at the Upper Baseball Fields at Duarte Sports Park! Come early to stake out the perfect spot for watching the fireworks and enjoy food vendors/trucks, live musical entertainment by local talent and Sangria Band, a family play area with rides and games, and other vendor booths. The gates open at 5:30 PM and the Fireworks Show starts at 9 PM.

Enhance your Independence Day Celebration experience with our special VIP package. VIP seating includes reserved event seating near the stage (one picnic table, umbrella, and eight chairs), and a snack box for the table. July 8, 6 - 9 PM | Summer Concert in the Park: Bruno & the Hooligans (2000 Buena Vista Street)

Get into the groove this summer for Concerts in the Park on Mondays from 6-9 PM at Beardslee Park. Arrive early and set-up your lawn chairs, blankets, and enjoy live music, DJ, and a different live band every week! All Concerts in the Park are FREE!

July 13, 8 - 10 AM | Yappy Hour (2627 Royal Oaks Drive)

Leash up your dog and join us for "Yappy Hour" on the Donald and Bernice Watson Recreation Trail. Along the trail, canine friends can enjoy a pupachino and other treat stations while their owner(s) come together with other animal lovers and enjoy a free coffee and other vendor/city resources. This is a free event, but registered participants will receive a giveaway while supplies last at check-in. Register at the ActiveNet Portal. July 15, 6 - 9 PM | Summer Concert in the Park: Vilma Diaz y La Sonora (2000 Buena Vista Street

July 17, 1 - 3 PM | Splash in the Park (1344 Bloomdale Street

Put on your swim attire and slide over to Duarte Park this summer to beat the heat! The Parks and Recreation Department will have inflatable water slides and water related activities for youth to cool off. Don't forget to bring sunscreen, towels, and snacks. This is a free public event, but advance registration is required per child at the ActiveNet Portal. For any questions, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (626) 357-7931.

July 19, 6 - 8 PM | Christmas in July: Underwater Photos with Santa (1600 Huntington Drive

Come make a splash in the Duarte Pool and snap an early Christmas card photo with Santa Claus underwater or by the pool! This summer evening will be filled with plenty of early holiday cheer and spirit, so we encourage attendees to wear their most festive holiday swimsuit/trunks and to bring goggles. All ages are welcome, but adult supervision is required for anyone 7 years old and under. Fees: Duarte Resident $3 | Non-Resident $5

July 22, 6 - 9 PM | Summer Concert in the Park: Family Style Band (2000 Buena Vista Street)

July 29, 6 - 9 PM | Summer Concert in the Park:  Soto the Band (2000 Buena Vista Street)

July 31, 12 - 3 PM | Splashtacular and Cardboard Boat Derby (1600 Huntington Drive

Join us for a Splashtacular afternoon at the Duarte Pool. Relays, water games, "The Big Splash", and for the first time ... our Cardboard Boat Derby Race! All ages are welcome, but adult supervision is required for anyone 7 years old and under. All team boats must register online at the ActiveNet Portal.   • Splashtacular fees: $1 for anyone 12 years & under, Seniors (55+), and Persons with Disabilities | $2 for Teens/Adults

  • Splashtacular + Cardboard Boat Derby Race: Duarte Resident $5 | Non-Resident $10

AUGUST

August 3, 10 AM - 12 PM | Touch-A-Truck (1610 Huntington Drive

Grab the kinds and come out and explore vehicles of all kinds including: trucks, fire engines, tractors, classic cars, and city buses. This event is free and no registration is required. For more information, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (626) 357-7931.

August 8, 6 - 9:30 PM | 41st Annual National Night Out & Movie in the Park (2701 Royal Oaks Drive)

Join us with your family, friends, and neighbors to celebrate our annual National Night Out hosted by the Public Safety and Parks and Recreation Departments. It's a night that promotes police-community partnerships, emergency preparedness, and crime prevention to make our community safer. This year's National Night Out celebration will include:

  • Neighborhood Watch Program Information

  • Crime Prevention and Safety Tips

  • Emergency Preparedness Resources

  • First Responder Vehicles Display

  • Dunk-A-Deputy Fundraiser

  • Inflatable Attractions

  • Arts & Craft Stations
